While reunions have their own sort of magic, initial meetings are perhaps even more exciting. And for the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, one of Northern Europe’s top ensembles, this will be their first visit to Müpa Budapest. And they couldn’t pick a better time, either, because they are celebrating their 100th anniversary this year! Since 2017, the orchestra has been led by a conductor from the southern part of the continent: the world-famous Italian Fabio Luisi, the celebrated star of numerous Metropolitan Opera broadcasts. The opening and closing numbers, works by Bent Sørensen and Carl Nielsen, represent Danish national music, and between the two, János Balázs, an old favourite of the Hungarian audience, will interpret a true hit: Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
