In this varied programme, Italian flute virtuoso Massimo Mercelli explores different aspects of flute playing from the past two centuries, while Benedict Kloeckner adds a selection of South-Eastern European folkloristic virtuoso pieces, all accompanied by masterful János Balázs. Finally, the performers unite in Weber’s Great Trio, which combines love longing, folk song aesthetics and the cult of Goethe in a typically romantic way, evoking scenes from Freischütz.
